Girl power: Camp uses music to deliver positive message about female leaders, self-confidence
GREENWOOD, Ind. (AP) — Girls ages 8 to 16 will learn about women's rights, self-protection and rock and roll at a weeklong summer camp aimed to build their confidence.
The Girls Rock! camp will be held at the International School of Indianapolis the week of July 15. Organizers tell the Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/11Vi0dP ) their goal is to use music to provide a foundation of self-confidence that girls can build on in their everyday lives.
Campers write their own music and perform onstage. They also learn about female leaders in history and take lessons in self-defense.
The camp began in Portland, Ore., a decade ago. The Indianapolis camp is run by volunteers.
